Capitol Riots/ Welcome to Amerikkka
This is a photograph of the capital riots overlaid over a photo of a piece of graffiti stating 'Welcome 2 Amerikkka', the addition of KKK in the name is used to expose the white supremacy in America. I believe that Trump had a clear role in rising tensions and exposing and promoting racism in America. I chose these images partially to reflect Trump refusing to call the KKK a terrorist organisation and condemn white supremacy during the presidential debate. |
Donald Trump/ Capitol Riots
Again this is similar to the reason above but more direct. I think by choosing a direct portrait of trump it is harder for the viewer to misinterpret this. I also think it is interesting the way that the flag has covered his eye as if his patriotism and nationalism and his 'America first policies' have clouded what is best for America, as can be seen in the image that is overlaid love the images |
Obama/ Kunduz Hospital Airstrike
On the 3rd October 2015 a United States airforce plane attacked a doctors without boarders hospital in the city of Kunduz. 42 people where killed and 30 where injured. Doctors without boarders said that it was a deliberate attack and a deliberate breach of International Humanitarian Law and a war crime. John F. Campbell, United States Commander in Afghanistan, stated that it was a mistake. The USCENTCOM report said that Campbell's lack of strategic guidance and dissemination of certain Rules of Engagement where major factors to the command breakdown prior to the airstrike. The photograph is of Baynazar Mohammad Nazar who was killed during the air strike. He was dead for one week before his body was identified. Margret Thatcher/ The Miner Strike
For this piece I wanted to look into the miner strike and the role that Margret thatcher had on the mass unemployment and her 'trickle down' economic approach and what this meant for millions of UK workers. I think that this didn't necessarily work as well as I would've hoped as Thatchers impact on the miners strike is quite well known. I also don't think that the image is that aestheticly impressive. |
Margret Thatcher/ Section 28
This was inspired by Thatchers creation of section 28. that banned all same sex 'propaganda' from education 'pretended family relationships' Although I used the same portrait as in the above image, I think that this was more impressive as section 28 is less known about in comparison to the miners strike. (write more about this) |
David Cameron/ Theresa May/ Boris Johnson/ The impacts of Austerity
This collage consists of the three conservative Prime Ministers from the past 10 years and the impacts that the mistakes and consequences of austerity measures that they have implemented. My intention was that the abstraction of the text was meant to make the viewer more intrigued although I am not sure if this is successful. I think that the topic of the image something that really interests me but somehow the image comes across as more comical rather than abstract. I would like to further develop this idea but in a different way. |
