WWW- I learned how to do a backstitch onto paper, using masking tape on the back of the image made it easier to stitch into the paper
EBI- I think I should chose a less complex shape than a skull as it just looks like a pair of glasses and a nose, I also think that my stitches should be closer together |
WWW- I was able to follow the pattern that I had picked out before as I had punched the holes in before. I think that my stitches where constnat compared to my first response
EBI- If I had done my stitches closer together I could've bridged the veins which I think could've helped make the 'veins' look more like veins. Use tracing paper to make the design more autonomically correct |
WWW- I was able to sew the amount of detail that I originally wanted to on the piece, all of the sewing is consistent so there are no gaps or irregular spaced stitches
EBI- If I chose different coloured thread to make the veins bolder and create a more interesting image. Iron down the piece so that you can't see the folds in the paper from sewing onto it |
First development
For the first response I wanted to explore different ways of cutting the images. I cut he print into two, for the image on the left, I swapped the faces of the two people. For the images on the right I cut the images across and then flipped each of the strips upside down and then taped the back of them again. I then repeated the process and it ended up with the bellow image. |
WWW- I am happy that I learned the process of how to glitch the images and in the image beside it then learned how to incorporate colour in the images
EBI- I do not feel that the images have been accurately glitched, they where not warped in the effect that I originally intended for them to be. Look into different ways of glitching the image. |

For this development I wanted to move away from my previous developments around artificial intelligence and move towards the structure of gender within society. I wanted to try to deconstruct what it means to be a successful man within contemporary society. I wanted to compose a still life as throughout history a still life has been a celebration of material features, however my intention was different. By isolating these objects that are seen as both the embodiment of hypermasculine success I wanted to take away their importance and by doing so question what masculinity is. Is it perhaps a way of living or items that somebody owns or the way that one is perceived. In my opinion the concept of masculinity is constantly changing due to the views of society, however in this still life I wanted to look into the stereotypical masculine status symbols such as watches and fine wine. Although I am not unhappy with the image I feel that these items do not accurately describe what masculinity is like in current day, these objects are more of a traditional view of masculinity.

WWW- I am happy with the images that I captured, in the similar style to Weston's nudes. I think that I was able to recreate the poses of the models quite well
EBI- I am not sure if my original intention of the images are seen clearly in the final product, I do not feel that I have successfully deconstructed the male gaze in these images, I hope to further develop this idea next year. |
WWW- I am pleased with the aesthetic of the images and that I was able to question the structure of the 'male' body and that I have successfully represented the disconnect that I have felt with my body in the past.
EBI- I would like to explore other ways that I can blur my images and consider more about what contributed to my body dysmorphia. Additionally, put more thought into my posing |
